While studying chemistry in college, I knew I wanted to have a career beyond what that degree traditionally offered. I volunteered at a local hospital, and then decided to apply to medical school, ultimately choosing a family medicine residency. After close to three decades
of practice, I try to consider what I would want for my family or myself and
make recommendations to my patients from that frame of reference, considering
their maladies. I keep in mind that all people are individuals; we all need
empathy and to be recognized, especially when we are ill.
