About Matthew A. Dwyer, DO

  • Dr. Dwyer grew up in Detroit, Michigan. In his free time, he enjoys going out for walks, binging a TV show, and cooking at home with his wife. He says, “eating delicious food is even better knowing you made it!” Among his favorite area locales is Mueller Lake Park in Austin around sunset, a beautiful spot to relax after a long day.

I always loved science growing up, and was always the person people turned to for help with a problem, so combining science and helping people led me to a career in medicine. I chose Rheumatology because that is where there is the largest unmet need in medicine, helping patients who struggle with rare diseases. Helping them improve their lives and empowering them with knowledge can really change their lives. Patient education is my top priority. Patients should understand why something is happening and what we will do together as a patient-doctor team to fix it. We have a conversation together about the disease or condition and what we will do to help give them their life back, and the patient now feels in control and empowered again about their future. And that makes it all worth it.

Loved that Dr Dwyer listened to my concerns/questions and provided a thorough explanation of my condition and treatment options. Excellent doctor.

  • April 9, 2024

I liked how the doctor and nurse listened to my concerns about my health, asked questions and the doctor came up with a health plan that addressed my concerns in a manner than made sense and he did not dismiss, out of hand, issues that were out of the norm.

This was my first visit. I found every on concern and very helpful. Dr Dwyer was knowledgeable, didn’t make a quick DX but explained that testing is needed to make the correct DX. It was convenient to have labs and xrays on site. Sure was happy to hear that Dr Dwyer travels to Bastrop.
