About Jennifer L. Mitchell, MD

Growing up, I saw the effects of uncontrolled chronic conditions, specifically diabetes. I chose medicine to fill the need for preventive care in addition to managing chronic conditions in order to prevent complications. I strive to treat each patient like a family member or friend so we can set and reach healthy goals together.

It was AWESOME!!! Because I am deaf, I found it a very good way to interact with my doctor kinda directly, unlike the in the clinic visits I have to look at two different persons at the same time - i.e. when my doctor/nurse talks/answers my questions, I looked at the sign language interpreter and when I talk/answer questions, I turned, looked at my doctor/nurse and talked. I didn?t feel the same way when we discussed all topics on the TV video via a sign language interpreter because I looked at one person instead of two different people at the same time. (Maybe it is hard for you to visualize what it is like to look at two different persons at the same time.) I hope that I did give you an idea about what it is like for me to go through this process all the time. However, I have always appreciated the reasonable accommodation for the deaf patients like myself. Thank you
