Dr. Lara grew up in Willis, a small town near Conroe. He lived in the Caribbean, California, and Wyoming, but says he realized “just how good” it was at home in Texas, especially the BBQ! In his free time, Dr. Lara enjoys hiking with his wife and dachshund-terrier mix, Oscar (Meyer), tending to their many indoor plants, low-and-slow grilling – and chasing a young daughter around! Among his favorite local spots are Valentina’s Tex-Mex BBQ, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and McKinney Falls State Park.
Studying sociology as an undergraduate opened my eyes to the many inequities of life, including the lack of quality primary care for many Americans. So, when I began medical school, it was with the intention of becoming a Family physician and providing that care to anyone. The family doctor holds a unique place in the lives of their community, and hopefully, makes those lives better. With my patients, above all, I listen. I have found that most people need someone who will listen first and treat later.
