Why did you choose the ARC Weight Management program?

I was at my highest weight ever and frustrated, to say the least, from a long history of roller-coaster dieting and exercise. I witnessed others experiencing rapid weight loss from surgery, but questioned whether that was right for me. I consulted my general practitioner at Austin Regional Clinic and she recommended the ARC Weight Management Program. A week later I attended the orientation meeting and knew immediately this was the right program for me.

What part of the program is the most effective in helping you?

The weekly group meetings were extremely helpful. Not only did they provide an outlet to share with others who were experiencing the same challenges, but to my surprise, they also provided a path to self-discovery. By identifying the triggers that prompted my desire to make unhealthy food choices, I created an awareness that forever changed my life. The ARC Weight Management team was amazing. Their support, information, and encouragement was invaluable and a significant contributor to my success.

What new habits or lifestyle changes have you made as a result of the program? 

The list of what I’ve changed as a result of this program is long, but the two most important changes for me have been increased activity and improving my eating habits. I take the stairs instead of the elevator. I park and walk instead of circling the parking lot, waiting for the ever-elusive “rock-star space”. I cook at home more often, where I can control how and with what ingredients my food is prepared. If I do eat out, I don’t hesitate to order a healthier alternative off the menu, or ask for special provisions. I have incorporated activities like swimming, playing softball, a variety of exercise classes and weight training into my life. I take a walk or treat myself to a massage or salon visit instead of running to the fridge to alleviate stress or boredom, or celebrate success. I have come to love the taste of whole natural foods, like a great tasting piece of fruit, or fresh vegetables, and staying hydrated with 8+ glasses of water daily. All these changes have promoted my new goal: eating to live and not living to eat.

How much weight and inches have you lost*? 

To date, I have lost 107 pounds, and 7 dress sizes. 

How long have you been a patient of the program? 

I have been a patient of the program since December 1, 2008 and am currently on maintenance.

How will you maintain your weight loss*?

I am committed to being healthy and never returning to the unhealthy lifestyle I once lived.  Continued activity and whole foods with nutritional benefits are my keys to success.

Why would you recommend this program over other programs?

I would recommend this program to anyone who is seriously considering weight loss. The plan is easy to adhere to; there are a variety of food choices, and the bonus - it tastes good too!  The weight loss is rapid, which keeps you motivated and provides great emotional momentum, especially when you have a lot to lose.  Health and progress are carefully monitored by physicians and counselors who are genuinely interested in your success.  High energy, never hungry, a great support team and a plan that works.  What more can you ask for?  This was absolutely the best decision for me and I have, and will continue, to recommend this program to anyone who is ready to stop the vicious “dieting” cycle and get healthy.
