Coumadin® is an anticoagulant (blood thinner) that reduces the formation of blood clots in the veins, arteries, lungs, or heart. You may have heard of the drug Warfarin or Warfarin Sodium; these are the generic versions of Coumadin. Coumadin works by blocking the formation of certain clotting factors. Without these clotting factors, blood clots are unable to form.
If your ARC doctor has prescribed an anticoagulant medication for you, you will participate in Coumadin Therapy at Austin Regional Clinic. This service includes regularly scheduled blood tests to determine if your medication is working. It is vital to your health that you attend all of your scheduled appointments. If you must cancel an appointment, please call ahead so we can reschedule your blood test. Bring all medication bottles to each visit. If you have any questions or concerns, please call your clinic.
