Knee Care
Orthopedic care for knee injuries and conditions
Most knee injuries will heal with rest. The most common knee injuries are strains to ligaments like the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the medial collateral ligament (MCL). Orthopedic surgeons use a variety of advanced techniques to heal knee injuries and joint pain. Treatment for mild injuries is often rest, ice, compression, and elevation, also known as R.I.C.E. Other treatments include physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication, cream or injection, and electrical stimulation. In some cases, surgery may be needed to repair severe damage.
What are the symptoms of a knee injury?
A knee injury can cause pain going up and down stairs, tenderness and swelling, and the knee may buckle or lock in place. Your knee is the largest joint in the body and one of the most active. It is best to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan from an orthopedic doctor, also called a knee doctor.
Knee ligament strains to the ACL or MCL can occur during daily activities but are experienced by athletes more often. You may also experience knee pain from a lifetime of use or the onset of arthritis. Other knee injuries include a meniscus tear when the cartilage that acts as the knee's shock absorber is torn.
Services
- ACL Reconstruction
-
ACL Reconstruction
The ACL is the ligament in the knee that controls rotation and forward movement of the tibia (shin bone), and is the most common ligament to be injured. ACL reconstruction is a surgical treatment to restore stability at the knee joint.

- Surgical Treatment of Patellar Dislocation
-
Surgical Treatment of Patellar Dislocation
Procedure to repair a patella dislocation, which occurs when the knee cap pops sideways out of its vertical groove at the knee joint, usually caused by force, from a collision, a fall or a bad step.
- Viscosupplement Injections
-
Viscosupplement Injections
Viscosupplement injections introduce hyaluronic acid into your joints to help reduce pain and swelling.

Conditions
- ACL Tear
-
ACL Tear
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the knee is one of four knee ligaments that stabilize the knee, and is one of the most common ligaments to be injured. The ACL is often stretched or torn during a sudden twisting motion, or when the feet stay planted one way, but the knees turn the other way.

- Cartilage Injury
-
Cartilage Injury
Torn cartilage is a common knee problem that can often occur with sprains. Treatment may involve wearing a brace during an activity to protect the knee from further injury. Surgery may be needed to repair or remove the tear.

- Fractures
-
Fractures
A fracture is a partial or complete break in the bone caused by falls, injury, or as a result of a direct hit or kick to the body. Fractures most often happen when more force is applied to the bone than the bone can take.

- Meniscus Tear
-
Meniscus Tear
Meniscus tears can happen during a sudden rotating movement while bearing weight, such as when twisting the upper leg while the foot stays in one place during an activity, or can develop over time (degenerative).

- Other Ligament Injuries (MCL, PCL, etc.)
-
Other Ligament Injuries (MCL, PCL, etc.)
Ligaments are bands of tough, elastic connective tissue that surround a joint to give support and limit the joint's movement. When ligaments are damaged, the knee joint may become unstable. Ligament damage often happens from a sports injury. A torn ligament severely limits proper knee movement. This results in the inability to pivot, turn, or twist the leg. Surgery is a choice to fix a torn ligament if other treatment does not work.
