Back-to-school vaccinations

When children return to school, group activities and classroom settings can increase the spread of viruses like respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), COVID-19, flu, pertussis, and more. To keep your child up to date with their vaccinations, check in with their pediatrician, family medicine doctor, or advanced practice clinician (APC). If your child still needs their well-check exam, you can address immunizations in the same visit.

Vaccines help keep children healthy and in school

Childhood vaccines help keep your child learning in school and involved in after school activities without falling behind. They can also save lives and keep your child safe. In addition to preventing the spread of illnesses mentioned above, benefits include:

  • Protection from diseases like measles, polio, rubella, diphtheria, and more.
  • Prevention of outbreaks. Read our latest update on measles.
  • Protection for those who cannot be vaccinated, such as infants, people with autoimmune disorders, and others.
  • Eradication of diseases like smallpox and near elimination for diseases like polio.

Thanks to the development and widespread use of vaccines, the frequency of life-threatening diseases has been vastly reduced and, in some cases, almost eliminated.

ARC helps keep your child updated on their vaccines

ARC follows the vaccine schedule recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). This information is available on the ARC website. We encourage parents to sign up for caregiver (also called proxy) access to their child's MyChart account to be able to easily review and download vaccine records. We also send reminders for well-checks and overdue vaccines.
