Today, January 19, we Americans pause to commemorate and celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., honoring the life, legacy, achievements, and impact of the late social justice champion and Nobel Peace Prize winner.
We remember Dr. King as an activist, a prominent leader in the civil rights movement, and a pioneering historical figure. Throughout his lifetime, he spoke about love, leadership, service, equality, freedom, and the hope and struggle for change.
He committed his life to creating change by advancing social justice and fighting discrimination to achieve equality for all people, and became a guiding light for change with his strong belief in creating a better country for all.
His legacy encompasses influential decisions, monumental actions, and steadfast progressions of humanitarian rights.
Today is a day to reflect on Dr. King's words and life. His vision for an equitable society continues to inspire action and dialogue.
He said, "I have the audacity to believe that people everywhere can have…dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits."
Dr. King gave the world a vision of equality and hope for a brighter tomorrow.
