Honoring the fallen on Memorial Day

Cemetery with American flags in front of every memorial stone, signifying Memorial Day

Monday, May 25, is Memorial Day, one of America's most cherished patriotic observances, a day to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, at home and abroad. For more than 150 years, on this federal holiday, we honor those who died defending our freedom and democracy, a debt we can never repay. They are entitled to our gratitude, and they will always live in our memories.

Not just on Memorial Day, but almost every day, we are reminded of the great sacrifices that those who served and now serve in the Armed Services continue to make as they defend us across the globe. Freedom comes at a cost, and this day is a solemn reminder of that cost.

Memorial Day is a respite from work for many Americans. At ARC, we continue with our commitment to After Hours and NormanMD coverage that has provided access to care for our community for 46 years. We sincerely appreciate all of our ARC physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and teams working this weekend, including After Hours, IT, NormanMD, Central Registration and many others.

The National Moment of Remembrance, at 3:00 pm on Monday, encourages us to pause, alone or with family and friends, for a moment of quiet reflection along with fellow Americans, taking time to think about and honor those who died in service to the United States. This memorial observance represents a simple and unifying way to commemorate our history and honor the struggle and those who died to protect our freedoms.

We remember and salute our fallen on this Memorial Day. They served with honor. We remember them with pride.

Let us live by their dedication to democracy and to freedom.
