ARC adds diabetic retinopathy screenings to save vision

Example of normal vision vs diabetic retinopathy

In 2022, ARC saved the vision of 414 people with a painless, five-minute screening.

Screening for the leading cause of blindness

All patients with diabetes are at risk for diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of blindness in adults under age 75.

Diabetic retinopathy screenings are painless and easy, take less than five minutes to complete, and do not require pupil dilatation or eye protection. And with today's therapies, more than 90% of vision loss is preventable or treatable.

In 2022, ARC completed screenings for 52% of our patients living with diabetes, besting the Texas average of 40%. We are committed to continuing to increase vision saves for our patients living with diabetes.

Available at 23 ARC primary care locations

ARC currently offers vision screening at 23 clinics and we are adding six additional locations to help save the vision of more patients.

If you are an ARC patient with diabetes, talk to your primary care physician (PCP) about a diabetic retinopathy eye screening. If you are a candidate, you may be able to complete your screening at the time of your visit.
