Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease that affects the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Recent findings in the field of Neurology have prompted industry-wide discussions about new parameters and sensitivities added to complement the criteria used to diagnose a patient for MS. This is especially significant for ARC Neurology and helps us facilitate early diagnosis.

The International Advisory Committee on Clinical Trials in Multiple Sclerosis (IACCTMS), co-sponsored by ECTRIMS and the National MS Society (U.S.), has released updated recommendations to the McDonald Diagnostic Criteria for MS.

In their peer-reviewed article, international experts elaborate on the inclusion of increased paraclinical testing options and biomarkers under McDonald criteria. Neurology experts also note that testing in a fifth topographic site and more detailed MRI imaging can support diagnosis in typical cases of MS.
