Monday, July 4 –Celebrate Independence Day!

Abraham Lincoln quote - Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth

Monday we celebrate Independence Day, the 246th anniversary of the declaration of America's independence and one of the most important dates in world history.

On this day in 1776, American colonists declared their right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," and as a nation we have been working toward that goal ever since, knowing that the freedom we enjoy today also comes with great responsibility. We clearly have work to do before we can declare this mission to be complete, but hopefully we will continue to make incremental progress toward that goal.

We have much to celebrate this July 4 after an extraordinarily challenging two-plus years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to widespread vaccination, we can come together more safely with the traditional large gatherings of fireworks, backyard barbeques, hotdogs and beer.

We want to especially thank our physicians, coworkers and staff who are on call all through this holiday weekend and Monday in After Hours Clinics, Norman MD, ARC IT and Central Registration. They remain on duty to serve our patients and the greater Austin community. Thank you.

Independence Day is a uniquely American holiday. In these still unprecedented and complicated times, we hope that you will all enjoy a happy, healthy and safe Independence Day.
