Three ways to fight the flu at ARC
September 03, 2020
This year, ARC is offering three different ways to get your flu shot. Come to one of our ARC flu clinics, ask your doctor at your next appointment, or get a flu shot delivered to you curbside! This newest delivery system is available at six ARC clinic locations: ARC NOW Clinic, ARC Round Rock, ARC Far West, ARC South 1st, ARC Southwest, and ARC Kyle Plum Creek. (These clinics also offer drive-up COVID-19 testing, but they are kept completely separate—different parking spaces, different clinicians—no overlap.) One caveat however; if you have had a serious reaction to a flu shot in the past, you cannot receive a curbside shot.
Be a flu fighter
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends universal flu vaccination, meaning that everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine. The single best way to protect against the flu is for everyone to get vaccinated—every year. This year it is especially important to get the flu vaccine as it is likely flu viruses and the virus that causes COVID-19 will be spreading simultaneously. Protecting yourself against flu allows your body’s immune system to fight other viruses. And protect your family, too. With the new curbside flu shots, you can have multiple family members in one car receive their shots, as long as everyone has an appointment.
Booking your flu shot appointment
Flu shots are available for established and new patients. Regardless of how you choose to get your flu shot at ARC, an appointment is required. Just like there are three ways to get your shot, there are three ways to make an appointment:
Currently, we are offering four forms of the flu vaccine:
- Fluzone regular flu shot (QIV*MDV): Approved for people ages 6 months and older
- Preservative-free flu shot (QIV*p-free): Approved for pregnant women and ages 6 months and older
- FluMist® (QIV*): Offered for children who wouldn’t otherwise receive an influenza vaccine
- FluBlok (QIV*): Offered for those 50 years and older.
*Quadrivalent vaccine (QIV): protects against 4 viruses including two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses.
We will also begin offering the Vaccines For Children (VFC) program in the near future.
