Providing Care is a Two-Way Street
March 17, 2020
Austin Regional Clinic is pleased to announce that Bandana Risal, Advanced Practice Nurse, has joined the Family Medicine team at ARC Round Rock.
Of her choice to become a nurse practitioner, Ms. Risal says, “I chose medicine because it reminds me of my grandmother, who always cared about other people in a homeopathic way.” She continues, “Medicine helps me bring changes in the community, something I care about.” Ms. Risal says she especially enjoys working with the geriatric population.
Of her philosophy of medicine, Ms. Risal says, “Providing care and receiving care is like a two-way street on which patient and provider both have to work hard and equally.”
Listening to Patients to Create A Connection
“Being a nurse practitioner, my goal is to connect with my patients and understand what it means to them to become healthy, to explore their knowledge and treat accordingly,” says Ms. Risal. “Listening to patients is one big aspect.”
Ms. Risal reminds her patients to practice “mindful eating and feeling the sensation of the flavors” as a healthy way to enjoy their food.
In her free time, Ms. Risal says, “I enjoy gardening, running, biking, and swimming in an open lake.” Additionally, she says she is “Trying to learn to play violin with my four-year-old son and dreaming we can play together one day.”
