Education, conservative treatment, and support are what this doctor orders

Austin Regional Clinic is pleased to announce that David H. Michel, MD, has joined the ARC Orthopedics team. Dr. Michel will be seeing patients at three ARC Clinics: ARC Medical Park Tower Orthopedics, ARC Round Rock, and ARC Far West.

“I have always had a passion for understanding and helping people, so medicine was always my plan,” says Dr. Michel about his decision to become a physician. “Growing up as an athlete I have always sought immediate results, which fits perfectly with Orthopedic Surgery. We have the ability to take patients with pain, or even those who are significantly debilitated, and get them on track to a pain free future after surgery.”

An educated patient is a happy patient

“I believe that an educated patient is a happy patient,” says Dr. Michel. “I work hard to build reasonable expectations for my patients so they know what to expect.” Dr. Michel also explains that he has a very conservative approach to treatment. He adds, “Should a patient decide to move forward with surgery, it is my approach to remain as minimally invasive as possible while correcting their problem.” Dr. Michel’s care does not end at surgery. He says, “It is of the utmost importance to me that my patients have the support and access they need after surgery, to put their minds at ease and help them on their way to a full recovery.”

Maintain an active lifestyle

When asked what health tip he offers patients, Dr. Michel says, “Continuing to maintain an active lifestyle can be a great way to care for your body, both your joints and your mind. Whether aiding to avoid surgery or helping you bounce back quickly afterwards, there is no substitute for staying active.”

Dr. Michel specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery, with expertise in joint replacement (arthroplasty) using minimally invasive and robot assisted surgeries, which helps rehabilitate patients as quickly as possible. He even offers outpatient joint replacement for many of his patients. Dr. Michel also has specialty training in anterior approach total hip arthroplasty, revision hip and knee arthroplasty, and partial knee arthroplasty including the patellofemoral joint.

An Austin native, Dr. Michel says, “I love being in the water, whether its swimming in Barton Springs or tubing down the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers.” He adds, “When not caring for my patients, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our daughter, taking our pup for jogs, and spending some time with a golf club in my hands.”

Dr. Michel is currently accepting new and established patients. If you would like to make an appointment with Dr. Michel, you can do so online at or by calling 512-454-4561 for appointments at any of his three locations.

Welcome to Austin Regional Clinic, Dr. Michel!
