ARC physician recommends prevention from West Nile Virus
July 30, 2020
Dr. Jacqueline Champlain, Family Medicine physician at ARC Manor, talked with KXAN about the West Nile virus and how to prevent becoming infected.
Travis County has it’s first “probable” human case of West Nile Virus for 2020, as identified by Austin Public Health, and mosquitos carrying the virus were found in both Williamson and Travis Counties earlier this month.
Dr. Champlain says “in general, the good news is that most people who are infected with West Nile Virus will not have any type of illness, so that’s really good.”
She also stressed the importance of prevention, including using insect repellent with DEET, wearing pants and long sleeves when outdoors, and draining any standing water around the outside of your house.
