February 27, 2018
Austin Regional Clinic is pleased to announce that Crystal M. Bowden-McKay, MD, Gastroenterologist, has joined the team at ARC Far West Medical Tower. Dr. Bowden-McKay comes to Austin by way of Houston, where she grew up.
Dr. Bowden-McKay says she chose gastroenterology as a specialty because it allows her to help many different people with many different health issues. She says, “From GI autoimmune and liver diseases, to nutrition and cancer screening, among so many others, as a gastroenterologist I am privileged to help so many patients with so many different issues get back to enjoying their lives.”
When asked how she approaches patient care, Dr. Bowden-McKay says, “I truly believe in the physician-patient relationship as the most important aspect of providing great care.” She says that she believes this relationship is important because “it helps my patients to understand the evidence-based rationale behind my recommendations so that they can become active participants in their treatment plan.”
In her free time, Dr. Bowden-McKay says, “I enjoy working out, being outdoors hiking or kayaking, cooking and baking, and spending time with my family.” She reports that they are still exploring their new home, but love trying new restaurants and new outdoor activities.
Dr. Bowden-McKay’s health tip for patients? “A healthy lifestyle is an essential part of GI health. This includes avoiding tobacco/smoking and excessive alcohol intake, following a well-balanced and diverse diet, good sleep practices, staying physically active, and maintaining a healthy weight.”
