What’s Making You Sick?
May 13, 2019
Do you know what is making you sick? Could it be stress? In this recent podcast of the ARC Healthcare Minute, Dr. Sandra L. Worrell, Family Medicine physician at ARC Kyle Plum Creek said, “The body’s reaction to stress can lead to chronic inflammation that can cause you to become ill.”
Stress-related illness can come in many forms. Dr. Worrell says, “Stress leads to damaged blood vessels and brain cells, and promotes painful joint diseases. It may also cause colds, weight gain, sleep and stomach problems, heart disease, depression, neck pain, and more.”
In order to determine if your symptoms are stress-related, or caused by some other health issue, see your primary care giver. Dr. Worrell says that if your illness is stress-related your physician can help. She says, “Talk to your doctor to determine the causes of your stress, and help you develop a plan for how to minimize it.”
