To Guide and Counsel
August 08, 2018
Austin Regional Clinic is pleased to announce that Lee R. Dockray, MD, FAAP, Pediatrician, has joined the team at ARC Leander.
Even as a child growing up in El Paso, Texas, and Alamogordo, New Mexico, Dr. Dockray says, “I can remember wanting to be a doctor. There was never anything else that I seriously considered.” His interest in becoming a pediatrician stemmed from taking care of his siblings. He says, “I was the oldest of four children and played an important role in caring for my brother and sisters. That experience lead me into a career of caring for children.”
Dr. Dockray describes his approach to Pediatrics as that of guide and counsel. He says, “My job is to help guide parents through the maze of raising happy, healthy, well-adjusted children who live up to their maximum potential. That includes both medical care in the scientific sense and being of counsel to the parents and the child about all of the psychologic and social issues encountered on the journey through the first two decades of life. My approach to Pediatrics is that children are well until proven otherwise. This means that I identify the problems that exist so they can be treated, but I am careful not to intervene more than is necessary. Like everything in life, balance is important.”
When not at work, Dr. Dockray enjoys yard work and playing the piano. He also enjoys time with family. He says, “My wife and I enjoy spending time with our three daughters. Our newest pastime is trying to keep up with our four grandsons. They are very busy.”
His best parenting advice? “Spend time with your children, even when you are tired and would rather do something else. There are too many ways in modern life for the time of parents and children to be occupied that do not allow them to get to know each other well.”
