Focus on Allergies
Your ARC allergy expert this week is Dr. Kelly A. Hetherington, Board Certified in Allergy and Immunology and Board Certified in Pediatric Medicine.
As the weather changes, so too does the allergy season, read below for a few tips on how to be better prepared.
Mountain cedar is unique to central Texas and the season lasts from December to February. Cedar allergies, often referred to as "cedar fever," can be intense and quite debilitating, causing missed days at work or school. To help reduce pollen exposure, avoid the outdoors during peak pollen times (5am-10am) and take a shower before bedtime. Most importantly, if you know you are allergic to cedar, begin taking allergy medications starting in mid to late November.
Download the Austin allergy calendar, find out more about allergy injections, or talk to your ARC primary care doctor to learn more.
