Focus on Organic Baby Food

Elizabeth Knapp, MD Your health care expert is Elizabeth Knapp, MD, Pediatrics, ARC Far West.

Is organic baby food really best for your baby?
Dr. Knapp believes it can be beneficial, especially before the age of two when the baby’s brain is developing at a rapid rate and the organs are most likely to be sensitive to exposure to harmful substances.

"Even small amounts of pesticide exposure is dangerous for babies because of their smaller body mass. Their brains are developing rapidly and are especially sensitive to neurotoxins at this age," says Dr. Knapp.

Check In for a Check Up

Check In for a Check Up

It’s that time of year again for camp and sports physicals. Whether required by summer programs or by middle and high-school sports and activities, many students at some point during the summer will see their regular doctor to get an annual checkup and fill out the necessary forms for camp and school at the same time.

ARC doctors know how important it is to get the paperwork filled out and encourage you to make sure to get an annual check up for your child, rather than just a sport’s physical. Often, we find that families choose to do the quick sports physical screening and forego a more complete annual exam for their child. However, annual checkups are vitally important for your children, because, unlike sports physicals, they also include:

  1. regular monitoring of growth and nutrition, including monitoring for obesity;
  2. screening for familial medical conditions like high cholesterol and high blood pressure;
  3. updating required immunizations;
  4. assessment of social and emotional development; and
  5. assessment of high risk behaviors like smoking, alcohol consumption, and unprotected sex.

We make it easy for patients to get their annual check up and fill out all necessary paperwork at the same time, including updating immunizations, by offering Walk-in Physicals from May thru July. The ARC primary care locations offering Walk-in Physicals are detailed below:
