Focus on Organic Baby Food

Elizabeth Knapp, MD Your health care expert is Elizabeth Knapp, MD, Pediatrics, ARC Far West.

Is organic baby food really best for your baby?
Dr. Knapp believes it can be beneficial, especially before the age of two when the baby’s brain is developing at a rapid rate and the organs are most likely to be sensitive to exposure to harmful substances.

"Even small amounts of pesticide exposure is dangerous for babies because of their smaller body mass. Their brains are developing rapidly and are especially sensitive to neurotoxins at this age," says Dr. Knapp.

Seton Heart Institute

Austin Regional Clinic welcomes Seton Heart Institute

In January, Seton Heart Institute (SHI) and Austin Regional Clinic teamed up to offer cardiology services at the Far West Medical Tower building also housing the ARC Far West Medical Tower clinic. Later this year, ARC/SHI Cardiology services will expand to three additional locations: ARC Round Rock, ARC South, and ARC Cedar Park.

The partnership between ARC and SHI is part of the strategy of both organizations to improve our patients’ overall healthcare delivery through a collaborative care approach. Housing cardiologists with other specialists and primary care physicians at Austin Regional Clinic facilities will ensure that patients receive the benefits of a team approach to health care. Heart disease can mimic and aggravate other conditions; therefore, having same-office access to a cardiologist can speed diagnosis and close treatment gaps. Other benefits for patients with complex needs may include faster interventions, and fewer repetitive diagnostic tests such as labs and X-rays.

SHI offers a full range of invasive and non-invasive cardiology services, including general cardiology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac transplants, and implantation of Ventricular Assist Devices. It continues to be the only designated heart transplant center in Austin.
