ARC PHYSICIAN NAMED AN ABJ “HEALTHCARE HERO”

August 11, 2011.  Dr. Renee Lockey, Obstetrics/Gynecology physician at Austin Regional Clinic South OB/GYN, was named one of Austin Business Journal’s 2011 “Healthcare Heroes” today at its 10th annual awards event.

Dr. Lockey was honored for being “a superb physician who not only administers exceptional care to her patients, but also applies her skills and talents in the service of the less fortunate.”  Dr. Lockey was nominated by her peers at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, her hospital affiliation for deliveries and patient care.

After completing medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1998, and her residency/internship at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in 2002, Dr. Lockey joined Austin Regional Clinic to provide obstetric and gynecological care.  She received a Patients’ Choice Award in 2008 from vitals.com, an online resource for comprehensive medical information on 720,000 physicians nationwide.

In addition to her professional honors, Dr. Lockey has volunteered at El Buen Samaritano clinic since 2003, assisting with clinics for the uninsured and underinsured populations, and with Young Lives, which works with teen mothers and pregnant teens.   She is also one of the top fund-raisers for the Hill Country Ride for AIDS.  Internationally, Dr. Lockey volunteers in Haiti, Honduras, and other Central and South American countries, and most recently has begun work with Living Waters International to help bring safe drinking water to third-world nations.

“Renee Lockey is a shining example of what a dedicated and caring professional is and contributes in our community,” said Dr. Norman Chenven, CEO & Founder of Austin Regional Clinic.  “We are very proud of her well-deserved recognition as a true “healthcare hero.”

The Austin Business Journal honored “those who have found a way to capitalize on his or her strengths to make a difference, and who work so hard because this is their passion, not just their profession.”
